Father's Day

Father's Day is June 16th, and whether you are looking for a gift for your father or not now is the time to find some great deals on electronics and power tools. I often pick up a few small things this week and store them away as stocking stuffers for my husband and father-in-law (no, it is never too early to think about Christmas! I already have a small stockpile of things for my family and friends...) Futureshop is advertising a Kingston 2GB flash drive for $9.99 (less than half the usual price) and a Garmin Nuvi 260W GPS for $150 off, at $299.99. I received a GPS for Christmas this past year and can't believe how much it has enhanced my shopping experience while I am away. Not only can I instantly see all Starbucks within a 20 km range (using Points of Interest) but I can add in my favourite stores in the area for future reference if I ever go back.

Danier Leather has some nice ideas for the younger, more urban father, with leather jackets (a bit heavy now that it is finally warm) but also messenger bags, wallets, belts and portfolios.

Winners has a nice selection of portable audio accessories. This is where I got the Altec Lansing speaker on sale for $52. The neatest one I saw was a speaker that secured to the post of a bicycle (I think it was about $69). The Apple store is also offering some cool accessories, such as a waterproof case ($80) and headphones ($50) for iPod. Check out http://www.apple.ca/ for details.

Let me introduce myself

Hello, there...

For years now I have been the person people come to when they need to buy something, and they want it as cheaply as possible. You see, I shop. A lot. I know when the local drugstore is offering a $10 gas coupon for spending a minimum of $50, or the day that Old Navy does all their markdowns for their big seasonal sale. My favourite part of vacations (OK, second favourite - soaking up the sun on the beach is still tops!) is checking out the local retail offerings. I have driven a poor Mexican man to tears bartering for some cute hand-painted birds, and I know which souk to go to in Doha to get the 'best price' on knock-off handbags or skateboard tees. Nothing compares to scoring a Coach purse at Marshalls (on clearance!) or grabbing the latest Joe fashion as it hits the rack (and on a bonus 25% off weekend to boot!)

By now you must be thinking 'this woman must have a crapload of junk in her house,' but the truth is that I am picky about what I buy. I love the thrill of the hunt for something I really want at an incredible price. And that's what this blog is about. I'll let you know about the great deals I see throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality (that's in Nova Scotia, Canada, for those who stumble in here) as well as any internet specials that come my way. I'll also let you know about my shopping exploits as I travel for work and play. My goal is not to brag about the gems I find, but rather to inspire you to dig a little deeper (Guy's Frenchies, anyone?) and come up with your own treasures that make you feel amazing every time you look at them.

Happy Shopping, everyone!
